Photos from the road…

Stephanie and I celebrated our one year anniversary last week. Crazy that it’s been a year! We rented a car and drove north, as far as Fort Bragg, spending the night in San Jose, Mendocino, and San Francisco. We had a lot of fun. Except for the part when I got (my first ever) speeding ticket. Here are a few photographs.

Olympic Graphics

Long time no blog. Stephanie and I have been supper busy this summer.  Among many other events, we just moved into a new condo. More on that later.

So it’s Olympic time again. When everyone’s a patriot and sports fan. I am one of those. There has been a fair amount of talk about the London 2012 logo and graphics since it was revealed I don’t know how many years ago. Much of it negative.

Personally, I don’t love it. But enough with the negative. Here is some Olympic design that gets the gold in my book:

Winter Games 1960 – beautifully mid-century. Great colors…

Moscow 1980. Looks like everything I would want the Olympic games in Russia during the Cold War to look like…

Mexico 1968 might be my favorite ever…

Finally, I think many designers consider Otl Aicher‘s work for the ’72 Munich games to be among the finest…

Healthcare Icons

I just about finished up a healthcare related motion graphic video. I’ll share the final once it’s, well, final. In the mean time here a few icons I developed and used throughout the video:

Greeting Card Ideas

Wow. It’s been a while. I have been working on a ton of fun projects, but have had no time to update.

Anyway, I was recently asked to come up with a few different greeting card ideas to send to volunteers at Mariners. Here are two that I really like.

Ikea bookends

I have been looking for some fancy bookends for a while now. Something mid-century and/or cast iron. I finally gave up and bought these from Ikea.

I did a little custom paint job, and here is how it turned out:

Definitely not the cast iron work of art I was originally searching for, but it works, and for a fraction of the cost.

photobooths

Last week, some of the guys at work recommissioned some old computer kiosks as photobooths. Every year, at least for the last few years, at Mariners we do free family photos on Mother’s Day. This year we decided to go the trendy “photobooth” route. It turned out quite well. I got to come up with a quick design to cover the front. Here are a couple images of said design:
